Research

Jeanna’s research explores the ways in which social media has shifted the developmental, psychological, and therapeutic landscape for new generations of adolescents. She promotes “media-competent” treatment skills among mental health providers, including knowledge, skills, and awareness surrounding adolescent social media use.

Her recent study demonstrated the link between therapists’ social media competency and the therapeutic alliance, supporting the need for new strategies to engage digitally-immersed adolescents in treatment. This work was published in Professional Psychology: Research and Practice.
